While walking down NYC’s Madison Avenue, I discovered Sayki, a menswear suiting boutique from Istanbul. Their ready-to-wear suits made me feel like a child in a candy store: jewel-tone colours, and exciting patterns created in a slim silhouette. Looking at their price tags, for the first time in a suiting store, I didn’t feel broke.
My creative juices began to flow: I had to photograph these suits. The music group East Love (comprised of Rob Fink, Alex Goldstein, and Lukas Effman), answered the modelling call, and brought sexyback in the process. Since these guys are musicians, you won’t find them in a corporate environment. But to see them dressed as businessmen with melodic flair, that’s a sight to behold.
The guys of East Love noted the sartorial similarities between musicians, and suited individuals. Fink lives by the idea that “when you’re up on stage, you need to look like the best version of yourself”. Whether you’re in a meeting with senior executives, or at a swanky cocktail party, any person should do the same. I can’t think of a reason why someone wouldn’t want to.
According to Goldstein, putting on a suit and going about your day is “…all kind of [a] performance when you walk out the door. You’re performing for the world, the environment around you. And the same thing with music, you’re performing always”.
Effman chimed in, stating that there’s “ an air for dressing for the job that you want, and there’s something liberating having the exterior match the interior”. The boys of East Love want to be musicians, and will dress for their craft. The same thing applies to an investment banker, or lawyer: If they sincerely love their profession, they will wear an impeccable suit to let the world know.
100% agree with their perspectives.
And now, the awesome songs of East Love:
