SEEKING FOUNDATION

This series is inspired by my own ambition to establish a strong foundation in all aspects of my life. The photos and their accompanying stories explore the the first attempt at building foundation, morality, purpose, personal transparency, and the physical and mental benefits of water.

The pandemic has forced me to strengthen my foundations: Professional, academic, emotional, romantic, financial, spiritual, mental, etc. In hindsight, I expected so much of myself on a shaky foundation. Self-sabotage… This is difficult. But as I progress, my foundation becomes stronger, which means I can accomplish more.

MORALITY

Despite its zealous and misguided followers, religion has some good moral teachings: Love thy neighbor; Do onto others as you would do unto yourself; Do not kill; Do not steal; The concept of reincarnation, etc. I try to heed these moral teachings to enrich my character foundations.

THE MAN WHO LOVED EARTH

In a kingdom far away, a young prince fell in love with earth’s natural gifts. However, the king focused on his kingdom’s living standards at the expense of its natural splendor. The frustrated prince argued to protect what he loved, but alas, failed… Afterwards, as the prince pondered how to convince his father, he then realized that what he loved gave him meaning. A sense of purpose. The prince fell asleep motivated to fight another day.

“The question is, do you really want this?”, asked my therapist. The right answer was, and always will be, the transparent one. Without transparency, how can I make progress with my mental health? I’ll know myself better, and feel stronger, if I’m sharply and clearly transparent. However, it takes discipline and practice.

I’ve grown to love water, a resource I once took for granted. Rather than with an alcoholic beverage, more often I remain centered with a glass of water. Rather than fuel myself with caffeine, more often I drink water for energy. The more I consume water, the better my body feels. A habit that supports a balanced mental state
